FreighAI vs cargo.one
Both companies sell AI to freight forwarders. Both turn a request into a priced quote a person can send. Both push a won booking into the system you keep your records in.
The starting point is what differs. cargo.one starts from the rate. FreighAI starts from the email. Every email your company receives is read, understood and turned into a task for the right person, with the answer already drafted. Your team approves. Nobody lives in the inbox any more.
Air is where cargo.one’s published coverage runs deepest, with more than 75 bookable airlines and live booking. Its current pages also cover ocean rate management, trucking charges and multimodal quoting. Every statement about cargo.one here comes from its own published pages, fetched on 3 September 2026.
- 01cargo.one is a rate platform first. Direct integrations with 75 or more bookable airlines, live air booking with automatic airway bill assignment, and a rate engine covering buy and sell rates, gateway, consol and Incoterm charges. FreighAI runs no rate marketplace of that kind.
- 02Air is the deepest part of its published platform. Ocean and multimodal quoting are on its current pages too, with ocean presented as rate management and quoting rather than booking direct with the liner.
- 03FreighAI starts a step earlier and reaches more departments. Every company mailbox is read, pricing, operations, tracking and accounts, and each conversation becomes a task for a named person with the reply already written.
- 04cargo.one publishes a mode in which nobody approves. FreighAI has no such mode. Settle that question before you compare anything else.
- 05cargo.one also sells a portal your agents and shippers quote and book in themselves. That sits outside what FreighAI does.
- 06Bring one real email thread from last week to both demonstrations, with the rate sources behind it.
What cargo.one does well
cargo.one presents a coherent platform for air and ocean sales and procurement. A large rate database, direct carrier integrations, a rate management system, quoting, air booking, a customer portal and a set of AI agents all work on the same data. A forwarder whose hardest daily problem is finding, holding and pricing carrier rates can evaluate it on ground it plainly owns.
Its air page describes every air rate type, static, live, promo, consol and ad-hoc, across more than 75 bookable airlines, with flight schedules, airline and handling agent contacts, automatic airway bill assignment and validated capacity. FreighAI does nothing of the kind; it reads your own carrier accounts through your own credentials. If you want one place to see and book many airlines at once, cargo.one is doing something FreighAI is not.
Charge codes, routing rules, zones, customer-specific rates, calculation bases and trucking zones. Buy and sell rates, gateway, consol and inter-office pricing, local charges by Incoterm, margins per customer group, lane or zone. Ocean contracts upload as Excel, PDF or email attachments and are read into structured pricing. For a business whose pricing rules are genuinely complicated, FreighAI presents nothing equivalent as a separate platform area.
A branded portal lets partners quote and book from your rates without waiting for your team. Its own material says this automates up to 80% of routine quote requests. Customer self-service portals stay in your own system and are outside FreighAI's scope, so this is a straight point to cargo.one.
cargo.one names pre-built connectors for CargoWise, Descartes and CargoSpot that sync rates, quotes and bookings, and publishes endpoints for rate indexes and tracking. FreighAI scopes integration work with your team instead of publishing a connector list.
Same decision, different starting point
A forwarder shortlisting either product is asking the same thing: who prices the enquiry, who sends the quote, who books it, and what the person is left holding. cargo.one's own AI pages describe pulling shipment details out of email and WhatsApp, assembling the quote from your pricing rules, taking the customer's go-ahead from email and answering tracking questions. That is real substitution, not a category difference.
The rate, or the whole conversation
Both read a request and produce a quote. What differs is how much of the working day each one carries afterwards.
cargo.one's quoting workflow extracts shipment details from email, WhatsApp or your sales portal, builds the quote from your pricing rules, checks margin, and sends it to your team for review or straight to the customer. Its booking agent picks up the go-ahead from email, matches it to the quote, books it and pushes the details to your TMS. Its support agent parses tracking questions and writes the reply.
FreighAI does those three things and does not stop there. It watches every company mailbox, pricing, operations, tracking and accounts, and follows each conversation from start to finish. It writes the reply, creates the task, and puts it in front of the right person in the right department, beside the original conversation. Your team approves. They do not compose, forward, file or chase. The reply goes out in their name.
What happens to one email
cargo.one describes reading email for three named jobs: a quote request, a booking go-ahead and a tracking question. Whether it reaches every department mailbox, an agent's rate reply, a carrier bill or an accounts chaser is not described in cargo.one’s published material, checked September 2026.
Who is allowed to send
cargo.one publishes three control modes on each agent page. Co-pilot, where it prepares and you approve every action. Supervised, where routine requests run alone and exceptions come to your team. Autonomous, where it runs end to end and your team watches performance rather than individual actions. FreighAI has one mode. Your team approves every reply before it sends. Your team approves. They do not compose, forward, file or chase. The reply goes out in their name. That is a difference in operating model, not a missing feature on either side.
Where the rate comes from
You keep your own carrier accounts and negotiated rates. FreighAI never sits between you and your carrier relationship. Emails all your agents for a lane in one go, with the route and charge lines filled in, then chases the ones who do not reply. cargo.one answers the same problem from the other end, with its own coverage and a rate procurement agent that drafts requests to carriers and partners, follows up and escalates when nobody replies.

What happens to one enquiry in FreighAI
An enquiry arrives. FreighAI reads it, notices the weight is missing and asks for it. It pulls your rate cards, checks the carrier for a live rate, and emails your agents for the lanes you do not hold, then chases them until they reply. It drafts the quote with your margin rules and what that customer paid on that lane last time. Your pricer approves and it goes. It follows up. When the customer pushes back, the counter-offer is already drafted. When the quote is old, it expires. When it is won, the job is created.
Where the rate can be fetched without waiting on a person — a carrier API, a portal read in the background, or your own uploaded rate cards — a priced quote goes out in 10–15 minutes instead of 1–2 hours. That holds for ocean and air just as it does for express; the mode does not change it. Where a lane has to be priced by another agent or over the phone, the wait belongs to whoever is answering — not to the software. FreighAI still writes the RFQ, chases the reply, and turns whatever comes back into a priced, margin-checked quote the moment it lands.

Which one you should actually pick
If nobody should ever choose the other product, this page would not be worth reading. Here is where each genuinely wins.
- your hardest problem is carrier rate coverage, and you want to see and book many airlines from one place rather than only the accounts you hold;
- air freight is the bulk of your business and live booking with automatic airway bill assignment would change your day;
- your pricing rules are complicated enough to want a dedicated rate engine for buy and sell rates, gateway and consol pricing, zones and Incoterm templates;
- your agents and shippers are asking for a portal to quote and book in themselves;
- you run CargoWise, Descartes or CargoSpot and a named connector matters more than a scoped integration; or
- you want the option of letting routine customer replies go out with nobody approving them.
- you are buying back the whole inbox rather than a rate source: the operations, tracking and accounts mail handled the way the pricing mail is, each thread landing on one desk as a finished task;
- your margin problem is not coverage but the hours around each enquiry: the detail the customer left out, the agent who never answered, the counter-offer someone writes at six in the evening, the price nobody withdrew;
- the job needs to keep going after the booking, into tracking replies, carrier-bill matching and payment collection on one platform;
- you want a named person behind every message your customer receives, with no mode that removes them;
- you want your own carrier relationships and negotiated rates left exactly as they are. Keep your TMS for the records. FreighAI runs the work around them.
FreighAI's central proposition is: Same team. 5x more business. That is the intended value position, not a universal measured result. Decide from demonstrated workflow fit on your own enquiries.
Can you run both?
More plausibly than with most pairs, because the two are strongest in different places. Carrier coverage, the rate engine and air booking sit on one side. Mailbox coverage, task assignment and post-booking work sit on the other.
It is not free, though. Both read quote requests from email and both build a quote, so running both against the same enquiry without deciding who owns it produces two versions of the same answer. Separate the responsibilities explicitly, and agree which product the customer's reply comes from. FreighAI is an AI-first freight operations platform that can run standalone or work alongside an existing TMS or ERP. It does not require a forced replacement. We scope the first workflow, integration requirements and implementation plan with your team.
What should you check in both demonstrations?
Put the same five things in front of both suppliers:
- a normal enquiry, a difficult one and one with a detail missing;
- a live email thread from a mailbox that is not sales;
- the lanes you hold rates on, and the lanes you must ask an agent for;
- the margin and approval rules that actually apply; and
- one exception that needs a person to think.
Ask which control mode the demonstration is running in. A workflow that looks effortless because nobody is approving it is a different purchase from one where a person signs every message. Then ask what your pricer is doing at ten in the morning: picking the next job off a queue, or approving work already done and put in front of them. Chasing, tracking checks, quote expiry and follow-ups run on their own. Nobody has to remember.
Common questions
Is cargo.one only for air freight?
No. Air is where its published coverage runs deepest, with more than 75 bookable airlines and live booking. Its current pages also cover ocean rate management, trucking charges, and one quoting workflow across air, ocean and multimodal shipments. Ocean is presented as rate management and quoting rather than booking direct with the liner.
Does FreighAI give me airline rates the way cargo.one does?
No, and it is not trying to. You keep your own carrier accounts and negotiated rates. FreighAI never sits between you and your carrier relationship. FreighAI reads your rate cards, your carrier account and your agents. If your advantage comes from seeing more carriers than you hold accounts with, that is cargo.one's ground.
Does cargo.one read our email like FreighAI does?
It reads email for three named jobs: pulling details out of a quote request, picking up a booking go-ahead, and answering tracking and routine questions. Whether it reads every department mailbox, an agent's rate reply, a carrier bill or an accounts chaser is not described in cargo.one’s published material, checked September 2026.
Which one lets the AI reply without a person?
cargo.one does, in its supervised and autonomous modes. FreighAI does not, in any mode. Your team approves every reply before it sends.
Which is cheaper?
Neither publishes pricing at the URLs checked on 3 September 2026, so this page makes no claim. Ask both for terms covering the same workflow and volume.
Do we have to drop our TMS for either of them?
No. cargo.one names connectors for CargoWise, Descartes and CargoSpot and pushes booking details into your TMS. Keep your TMS for the records. FreighAI runs the work around them. FreighAI is an AI-first freight operations platform that can run standalone or work alongside an existing TMS or ERP. It does not require a forced replacement.

Put one real thread in front of both
Bring an email thread from last week that took someone an hour, with the enquiry behind it and the rate sources you used. Ask both teams to show the normal case, the missing detail, the agent who never replied, the customer who wanted a lower price, and the approval.
