Comparison

FreighAI vs 5U AI

Both products put AI on the daily jobs in a forwarding office. The enquiry. The document. The status chase. The invoice. Both keep a person in the decision. The overlap is real.

The difference is what you buy. 5U AI sells named AI workers that do a job from inside the systems you already run. FreighAI takes over the inbox itself. Every email your company receives is read, understood and turned into a task for the right person, with the answer already drafted. Your team approves. Nobody lives in the inbox any more.

Where 5U AI is the better fit, this page says so. Every statement about it comes from its own published pages, fetched on 3 September 2026.

  1. 015U AI and FreighAI do overlapping work. Both read the email, handle the document, chase the status and hold the decision for a person.
  2. 025U AI sells workers you can point at. A Rate Manager. A Track and Trace Worker. An operations worker. You can start with one job and add another later.
  3. 035U AI records how each worker reached its decision. FreighAI publishes nothing equivalent. That is a real point in 5U AI’s favour and this page marks it as one.
  4. 04FreighAI is not a worker you add to the team. It watches every company mailbox, follows each conversation to the end, and hands the right person a finished task to approve.
  5. 05Much of what a pricing desk cares about is not described in 5U AI’s published material, checked September 2026. The missing detail chased. Every agent emailed for a lane. The counter-offer. Quote expiry. Ask about those in a demonstration, because silence is not absence.
  6. 06Bring the same three enquiries and one live email thread to both demonstrations.
About 5U AI

What 5U AI does well

5U AI has one idea and states it plainly. You should be able to handle more work without adding people, so the product is sold as workers rather than modules. Its own words are “We do not propose another tool. We propose the work being done.” Each worker has a job title, a described task and a named place it runs. For a company founded in 2025, that is an unusually legible product.

Workers you can point at

5U AI names what it sells. The Rate Manager “handles incoming RFQs - reads emails, extracts shipment details, pulls rates from sheets or portals, and replies instantly”. The Track & Trace Worker “tracks the last statuses of the shipments and always notifies the related parties on time”. A third worker “processes documents, reads and writes across different systems”. A buyer can scope one job, prove it, and only then add another. That is easier to approve, easier to budget and easier to stop.

A written reason for every decision

5U AI leads with what it calls the Context Layer, which “records how each AI Worker reaches a decision, giving operations teams visibility over what has been done, why it has been done, and how similar decisions can be improved over time”. If your team’s first objection is that it will not trust software it cannot question, 5U AI has a published answer to that today and FreighAI does not. This is 5U AI’s strongest single differentiator.

Named connections a European forwarder recognises

5U AI’s integration strip names Gmail, Slack, Outlook, WhatsApp, WiseTech (CargoWise), Timocom and Teams. WiseTech and Timocom matter to a European road and forwarding operation in a way a generic integration promise does not. FreighAI’s published live connections are Gmail, Outlook, WhatsApp, DHL, FedEx and UPS. If a named forwarding TMS or road exchange connection is your decisive requirement today, 5U AI’s published list is ahead of ours.

It stays where the team already sits

5U AI says its workers “manage freight forwarding operations from inside existing systems”, connecting to the TMS, email inboxes, rate sheets and customer portals. It reads unstructured data from PDFs, Excel files, chats and emails, covers air, sea and road, and describes itself as multilingual and running around the clock. Nobody has to learn a new screen. For a team that has already survived one painful rollout, that is a genuine advantage.

A genuine alternative

Same job, different unit of adoption

These two products compete for the same money. Same buyer, same jobs, same starting point of email and attachments. Both read the enquiry, handle the document, chase the status and stop for a person before anything goes to a customer. So the honest question is not which is more advanced. It is whether you want to hire a worker for a job, or take the job out of the inbox altogether.

Where the products overlap and differ

A worker you hire, or the inbox taken over

The overlap is wide. The difference shows up in what happens to the mailbox, and in what happens between departments.

5U AI’s product page is headed “Your Digital Teammates, Without the Hiring” and “FROM INBOX TO INVOICE”. In plain words: a worker joins the team and does a job. Your mailbox stays where it is. The worker reaches into it, pulls out the enquiry or the document, does the task and reports back. The desk does not move. Its four published use cases are repetitive quoting, status chasing, financial reconciliation and after-hours messaging, and every one of them is a job a person is doing today.

FreighAI moves the desk. It watches every company mailbox, pricing, operations, tracking and accounts, and follows each conversation from start to finish. It writes the reply, creates the task, and puts it in front of the right person in the right department, beside the original conversation. Your team approves. They do not compose, forward, file or chase. The reply goes out in their name.

That is the second difference. It pulls your rate cards, checks the carrier, looks up the customer’s history, reads the shipment status, and talks to your TMS or accounting system. Work passes from pricing to operations to accounts with the email and everything it found attached. Nobody forwards it, re-keys it or asks for an update.

FreighAI also reads what actually arrives. Reads PDF, Excel, Word, forwarded email, WhatsApp messages, photos and scans. 5U AI describes reading PDFs, Excel files, chats and emails, so the two are level here. Test both with the same three attachments.

What you are actually buying

5U AI’s unit is a worker. You buy the status chasing, or the document processing, and the rest of the day carries on as it did. FreighAI’s unit is the inbox. Pricing, operations, tracking and accounts all work in the same place, so an enquiry can travel the whole way without anyone forwarding it.

Neither shape is automatically better. A single worker is easier to scope, cheaper to try and simpler to abandon if it disappoints. A layer is worth more only if the work genuinely crosses departments. Ask yourself where your enquiries get stuck. If it is inside one job, 5U AI is a serious answer. If it is in the gaps between people, that is what FreighAI was built for. Your people work in FreighAI. Not in the inbox. Not in five browser tabs.

One enquiry, start to finish

What happens to one enquiry in FreighAI

An enquiry arrives. FreighAI reads it, notices the weight is missing and asks for it. It pulls your rate cards, checks the carrier for a live rate, and emails your agents for the lanes you do not hold, then chases them until they reply. It drafts the quote with your margin rules and what that customer paid on that lane last time. Your pricer approves and it goes. It follows up. When the customer pushes back, the counter-offer is already drafted. When the quote is old, it expires. When it is won, the job is created.

Where the rate can be fetched without waiting on a person — a carrier API, a portal read in the background, or your own uploaded rate cards — a priced quote goes out in 10–15 minutes instead of 1–2 hours. That holds for ocean and air just as it does for express; the mode does not change it. Where a lane has to be priced by another agent or over the phone, the wait belongs to whoever is answering — not to the software. FreighAI still writes the RFQ, chases the reply, and turns whatever comes back into a priced, margin-checked quote the moment it lands.

The honest answer

Which one you should actually pick

If nobody should ever choose the other product, this page would not be worth reading. Here is where each genuinely wins.

Choose 5U AI if
  • the requirement is one job done well, such as status chasing or document processing, and you want to buy exactly that and nothing more;
  • your team’s first objection is trust, and a written record of why the AI decided what it decided would settle it;
  • the decisive connection is one 5U AI names, such as WiseTech or Timocom, and it matches the system you actually run;
  • the mailbox and the operating system must stay exactly where they are, because the team has already been through one painful rollout; or
  • your team simply prefers 5U AI’s product, its people or its commercial terms after both have been tested on the same work. That is a reasonable product-fit decision, not an oversight.
Choose FreighAI if
  • you want the team out of the mailbox altogether, with every department’s email read, sorted and turned into tasks, and the replies going out in your people’s names;
  • the pain is the legwork around the quote: the missing detail, every agent emailed for a lane, the chase, the counter-offer and the expiry;
  • one enquiry has to travel from pricing to operations to accounts without anyone forwarding it, re-keying it or asking for an update;
  • quotation, booking, tracking, carrier-bill matching and collection should share one customer context over time rather than sit in separate jobs;
  • the first workflow has to be able to run on its own, with your records system alongside it. Keep your TMS for the records. FreighAI runs the work around them.

FreighAI’s central proposition is: Same team. 5x more business. That is the intended value position, not a measured result for every business. Make the decision from demonstrated workflow fit.

Running both

Could you run both?

In theory, yes, if the jobs are kept apart. One product owns the enquiry and the quote, the other owns a downstream job such as document processing or invoice matching. That only works if you decide in advance which system owns the customer conversation, and who the customer’s reply reaches.

In practice the overlap here is wide enough that most buyers should pick one. Two products both reading the same mailbox and both replying to the same customer is how a customer ends up getting two answers. If you do trial both, trial them on different mailboxes and compare the result after a month.

Before you decide

What should you test in both demonstrations?

Bring the same evidence to both suppliers and make them work on it live:

  • a normal enquiry, an awkward one and one with a detail missing;
  • one live email thread with its full history, from a mailbox that is not pricing;
  • the rate sources you actually use, including the agents you have to email;
  • one carrier bill with a wrong line on it;
  • the approval rules that apply, and who is allowed to override them; and
  • an exception that needs a person to think.

Then make two specific requests. Ask 5U AI to open the Context Layer on a decision you disagree with. Ask FreighAI to show the same enquiry travelling from pricing to operations to accounts without anyone forwarding it. Those two requests separate these products faster than any feature list will.

Questions

Common questions

01

Is 5U AI a TMS?

No, by its own positioning. It says its workers manage freight forwarding operations from inside existing systems, and it connects to the TMS, email inboxes, rate sheets and customer portals. It sits above your records, as FreighAI does.

02

What is the Context Layer, and does FreighAI have one?

5U AI describes it as a record of “how each AI Worker reaches a decision, giving operations teams visibility over what has been done, why it has been done, and how similar decisions can be improved over time”. FreighAI publishes no equivalent capability. If an audit trail of reasoning is decisive for you, that is a point for 5U AI.

03

Does FreighAI take my inbox away?

No. FreighAI connects to your Gmail or Outlook accounts to read and send, so nothing changes for your customers. What changes is where your people sit. Your people work in FreighAI, not in the inbox. Your people work in FreighAI. Not in the inbox. Not in five browser tabs.

04

Does 5U AI do the quotation legwork this page describes?

Its Rate Manager reads incoming RFQs, extracts shipment details, pulls rates from sheets or portals and replies. Whether it asks for a missing detail, emails every agent on a lane, chases the quiet ones or drafts a counter-offer is not described in 5U AI’s published material, checked September 2026. Ask for those four things by name.

05

Which one is cheaper?

5U AI publishes no pricing, and neither does this page. Ask both for commercial terms covering the same workflow, the same connections and the same volume, then compare like with like.

06

How long does each take to put in?

This page makes no speed claim for either product. 5U AI publishes performance figures that this page deliberately does not repeat. We scope the first workflow, integration requirements and implementation plan with your team.

07

Do both keep a person in control?

Your team approves every reply before it sends. Your team approves. They do not compose, forward, file or chase. The reply goes out in their name. 5U AI describes a human-in-the-loop model where the workers “will ask your approval” when stuck. Ask both to show the approval gate and the exception path live, on real work.

Sources

Only 5U AI’s own pages were used. Third-party coverage of the company was read and set aside. Its published percentages, its funding, its investor and its named customer are deliberately not repeated, because the evidence behind them has not been reviewed for this page. FreighAI claims come from the shared facts file and the signed Infinity Logistics reference of 15 May 2026. No feature absence is asserted anywhere on this page.

READY WHEN YOU ARE

Bring one real thread to both demonstrations

Take a live email thread from last week, with the enquiry behind it, the rate sources you used and the person who had to chase. Ask both teams to run it in front of you: the missing detail, the agent who never replied, the customer who pushed back, the approval and the hand-off to operations. Then decide whether you want a worker doing a job inside your systems, or the inbox off your team’s desk for good.
